The US embassy in Baghdad said Wednesday that a delegation from the Armed Services Committee of the Congress visited Baghdad and Erbil on March 18 and 19 to discuss US-Iraq relations
US House of Representatives members John Garamende of the Democratic Party of California, Deb Haland of the Democratic Party of New Mexico and Veronica Escobar of the Democratic Party of Texas met in Baghdad, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Mohammed Halbusi.
He added that these members met in Erbil, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani.
The statement noted that members of the US Congress discussed the importance of the relationship between the United States and Iraq and the future of bilateral cooperation, in particular ensuring the permanent defeat of the United States and the continuing role of the United States in advising and training the Iraqi security forces.
The statement added that the delegation stressed that at the invitation of the Iraqi government and in partnership with the Iraqi security forces, the US military forces in Iraq should remain as part of the international coalition to defeat an advocate.
"This ongoing partnership must respect Iraq's sovereignty while working with the Iraqi security forces to achieve the common goal of ensuring the permanent defeat of violent extremist organizations such as a pre-emptive organization in Iraq," the delegation noted. Keywords: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
