The American envoy to the Middle East, Jason Greenblatt, published a picture of an updated map adopted by his country's authorities officially showing the occupied Syrian Golan Heights within the borders of Israel.
"Welcome to the new map in our international mapping system, after the declaration of recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights," Greenblatt said on his official Twitter account.
US President Donald Trump announced in March his country's recognition of Israel's sovereignty over the Syrian Golan Heights occupied since 1967.
UN resolutions stipulate that settlements on the occupied territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights are illegal.
The Trump Declaration contravenes international law that prohibits the annexation of the occupied territories to the sovereignty of the occupying state. Under all international conventions and conventions, particularly Resolution 242, the Golan Heights are Syrian territory that Israel has captured and can not annex to its sovereignty.
Trump said he made the decision after receiving a quick lesson in history during a dialogue on a different topic. He went on to the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas, Nevada, that he made the quick decision during a discussion with his senior advisers on Middle East peace, including David Friedman, The United States to Israel and his son-in-law Jared Kouchner.
