    In the face of this escalation, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Khamenei, confirmed last Tuesday that "the war will not break out" with the United States.

    A senior Iranian military commander has met with leaders of pro-Iranian Iraqi militias in Baghdad and asked them to prepare for the war, according to a report in the Guardian newspaper. 
    The newspaper quoted senior intelligence sources as saying that the commander of the Quds Force, Major General Qassem Soleimani, met three weeks ago with elements of the militias loyal to Iran in Iraq, in conjunction with the escalation of tension between Washington and Tehran.
