    The US military has stepped up its security measures in an unprecedented manner in its bases and camps in Iraq, witnesses said, pointing to the presence of low flights in Anbar. 
    Al-Arabi newspaper quoted the source as saying that "the Americans have increased their security measures in an unprecedented manner in the bases and camps they are in, such as Ain al-Assad, and progress in Anbar, the airport, and Taji in Baghdad, and a country in Salahaddin, and another location near Mosul," noting that " These actions included the flight of surveillance aircraft and the launch of balloons and patrols and not allow any forces other than the Iraqi army to move in the vicinity of its presence.
    The witnesses said that "they noticed an American helicopter circling around the bases, at dawn today, lasted more than half an hour as the aircraft continued to fly, and seen the forces of the second brigade of the Iraqi army carrying out large sweeps around the base of the eye of the lion also."
    While a local source in Basra said that "the efforts to reopen the US consulate in the city after the closure last year because of missile targeting is now impossible."
    "The Americans were closer to the reopening of the consulate and the resumption of the crew's work, but with the US State Department's statement, there were no hopes."
    The US State Department on Wednesday called on its "non-essential" staff at its embassy in Baghdad and its consulate in Erbil to leave Iraq, and suspended temporary visas for Iraqis temporarily.
    The US military announced on Tuesday that "the status of US forces in Iraq is on the alert due to possible threats by the Iranian-backed forces in the region," declaring that he "is monitoring the threats, which may be imminent for US forces in Iraq."
