US Rep. Donald Trump has been engaged in behavior that may require his "isolation", becoming the first politician from his party to call Trump out.
Michigan State Attorney William Bar accused the public of deliberately "misleading" the contents of the Special Prosecutor's report, Robert Mueller, linked to Russia's support for Trump's victory in the 2016 presidential election.
In a series of tweets, Amash said that "the Muller report read only a few members of Congress," noting that the report identified "several examples of behavior that match all elements of the obstruction of justice."
"Without a doubt, it would have been possible to bring charges based on this evidence to anyone other than the US president," he said.
"Unlike what Barr has shown, Muller's report reveals that President Trump has been involved in specific actions and in a behavior that meets the minimum (of conduct that requires) isolation," he said.
Amash's statements went beyond those of most prominent Democrats in Congress.
In turn, Democratic Rep. Rachida Tlaib urged her Republican counterpart to support a draft resolution she had submitted calling for the removal of Trump.
"I have a draft resolution calling for an investigation that would lead to the removal of (the president) you might want to support with me," she said in response to Amash's comments.
Trump said Mr Muller's report had been fully cleared, but some Democrats noted that the report presented several cases in which the president may have obstructed justice, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a candidate for the 2020 election that called for the president's removal.
But other prominent Democratic figures, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, have warned of such a move, saying it could lead to divisions.
They cautioned against the political consequences that could result politically in the run-up to the 2020 elections, especially since the Republican-dominated Senate would probably dismiss the president if the House of Representatives decided to dismiss him.
