After Hanoi, Kim executes Special Envoy to Trump
North Korea has executed many of its foreign ministry officials, including its special envoy to the United States, over the collapse of the Vietnam summit between Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump.
"Kim Hyok-chul was interrogated and executed at Mirim airport with four foreign ministry officials in March," North Korean officials told South Korea's Chosun Ilbo newspaper on Friday.
The Trump-Kim Summit, held in Hanoi, Vietnam, collapsed in February after the two leaders failed to reach agreement on North Korea's nuclear disarmament.
Nuclear disarmament talks have stalled since the collapse of the second Trump-Kim summit, and North Korea later held more weapons tests this month.
Some saw the tests as a protest against Kim after Trump rejected his call for a relaxation of sanctions at the Hanoi summit.
Earlier this month, a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement that "the root cause of the failure of the summit talks is the arbitrary and deceptive attitude of the United States and its insistence on an impossible path to proceed."
