[size=45]Donald Trump became the first US president to set foot in North Korea on Sunday when he met with its leader Kim Jong-un in the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas and agreed to resume stalled nuclear talks.
[size=45]The two leaders shook hands warmly and expressed hope for peace when they met for the third time in slightly more than a year at the border line, which symbolizes the Cold War and for years has been a symbol of hostility between the North and South neighbors, which are officially at war so far.[/size]
[size=45]Trump and Kim flew a military demarcation line into the northern part briefly.[/size]

[size=45]Moments later, they returned together and traveled to South Korea and were joined by South Korean President Mon Jinn in a brief dialogue, becoming the first ever meeting of the three leaders.[/size]
[size=45]Trump and Kim held a closed meeting for nearly an hour. 
"The meeting was very good and very strong," Trump said after the meeting. "We agreed to elaborate." "We'll see what happens."[/size]
[size=45]He also said the two sides had agreed to form working groups to push forward the stalled talks aimed at forcing North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons, saying it was not rushing to reach an agreement.[/size]
[size=45]Trump and Kim met for the first time in Singapore in June last year and agreed to improve relations and work towards the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.[/size]
[size=45]But little progress has been made since then. 
A second summit in Hanoi, Vietnam, collapsed in February after both sides failed to narrow the gap between a US demand for North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons and a North Korean demand for the United States to lift sanctions.[/size]
[size=45]Kim looked relaxed and happy as he chatted with Trump amid a crowd of photojournalists, assistants and bodyguards.[/size]
[size=45]"I was surprised when I saw your message that you wanted to meet me," he said. He was referring to a presentation by the US president on Twitter on Saturday to meet with Kim.[/size]
[size=45]"This is an expression of his willingness" to work towards a new future, the North Korean leader said.[/size]

Kim said Trump 's visit to Pyongyang , the capital of North Korea would be a great honor.[/size]
[size=45]"The crossing of this line was a great honor," Trump said, referring to his brief crossing to the North Korean side of the demilitarized zone.[/size]

"We have made miracles" to arrange the meeting in such a short time.[/size]
[size=45]Trump arrived in South Korea late Saturday for talks with Moon after attending a G-20 summit in Osaka, Japan, during which he made a surprise appearance at Kim's meeting.[/size]

[size=45]Trump and Kim met in the joint security zone, which is being patrolled by soldiers from the north and south. Moon joined them after shaking hands.[/size]
[size=45]Trump said he had "plenty of time" and was not in a "hurry" to reach an agreement.[/size]

North Korea has sought nuclear and missile programs for years in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions, and easing tensions with North Korea has become one of the top foreign policy priorities of the US president.[/size]
[size=45]The demilitarized zone was established after the end of the 1950-53 Korean War with a cease-fire and not a truce agreement, which means that North Korea is still officially at war with the United Nations-led forces.[/size]

VATICAN CITY, June 30 (Reuters) - Pope Francis praised on Sunday the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and said he hoped it would lead to peace. 

"In the last few hours we saw in Korea a good example of the culture of encounter. I salute the protagonists, with a prayer that such a significant gesture will be a further step on the road to peace, not only on that peninsula, but for the good of the entire world," he told thousands of people in St. Peter's Square for his weekly address and blessing.

Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to set foot in North Korea on Sunday when he met its leader, Kim Jong Un, in the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) between the two Koreas and agreed to resume stalled nuclear talks..

When he met the pope last year, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who is Catholic, relayed a verbal invitation from Kim to Francis for the pontiff to visit North Korea.

Vatican officials have said the pope, who has made many appeals for rapprochement between the two Koreas, would consider such a trip under certain conditions if it could help the cause of peace.

Moon said the pope, who is due to visit nearby Japan this year, told him he would "definitely answer" a formal, written invitation from Kim. Such an invitation is not believed to have been yet made.
