    BAGHDAD - Trade 
    Minister Mohammed al-Ani arrived in Basra on Wednesday to meet with his Kuwaiti counterpart Khaled Nasser al-Roudhan in the port of Safwan in the framework of the joint agreement to rehabilitate the port. 
    "The Minister of Commerce, Mohammed Al-Ani arrived today in the province of Basra in preparation for meeting with his Kuwaiti counterpart Khalid Nasser Al-Roudhan in the port of Safwan border," the ministry said in a statement received by Mawazine News. 
    "The meeting between the two ministers will discuss the development and rehabilitation of the port of Safwan Abdali in implementation of the agreement signed between the two countries, for the purpose of development and facilitate the movement of transport, which leads to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries and the provision of financial resources. 
    "The minutes of the meeting between the Iraqi and Kuwaiti sides last February stipulated the implementation of a draft free trade agreement between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Iraq and the establishment of a free trade zone."
    The ministry added that "in the light of the minutes, the issue of entry visas for businessmen to the two countries was discussed. The two sides also discussed the rehabilitation of Safwan al-Abdali port to facilitate the movement of transport leading to increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries. And invite specialists from both sides to meet and coordinate to complete the technical aspects. " 
    She pointed out that "a joint working group was also formed between the two countries to prepare plans, economic feasibility studies and the requirements of rail links between the two countries, as well as the formation of an economic committee to promote and develop trade and economic relations," indicating that " And investment protection. "
    The ministry said that "the minutes of the previous agreement also included follow-up outputs of the Kuwait Conference and frozen balances in the banks of both countries, in addition to the agreement of the two sides to hold meetings of the Iraqi Kuwaiti Committee at the earliest opportunity."
