Minister Mohammed al-Ani arrived in Basra on Wednesday to meet with his Kuwaiti counterpart Khaled Nasser al-Roudhan in the port of Safwan in the framework of the joint agreement to rehabilitate the port.

"The meeting between the two ministers will discuss the development and rehabilitation of the port of Safwan Abdali in implementation of the agreement signed between the two countries, for the purpose of development and facilitate the movement of transport, which leads to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries and the provision of financial resources.
"The minutes of the meeting between the Iraqi and Kuwaiti sides last February stipulated the implementation of a draft free trade agreement between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Iraq and the establishment of a free trade zone."
The ministry added that "in the light of the minutes, the issue of entry visas for businessmen to the two countries was discussed. The two sides also discussed the rehabilitation of Safwan al-Abdali port to facilitate the movement of transport leading to increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries.
