The United Nations announced that Kuwait received $ 270 million from Iraq as compensation for damage caused by the "first Gulf War" as part of its efforts to obtain full compensation.
The United Nations Compensation Commission said in a statement that "with this last payment, it paid a total of 48.7 billion dollars, leaving 3.7 billion dollars of the total amount estimated at 52.4 billion dollars."
The money is linked to one request by KOC for its production losses and damage to oil assets, the committee said in a statement.
The United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) was formed in 1991 after the US-led coalition removed Iraqi forces from Kuwait and set compensation values for individuals, companies, government agencies and other organizations that suffered war losses.
The committee was forced to halt payments between 2014 and 2018 because of the security crisis in Iraq and the control of a "chorus" of large parts of the country.
Iraq has committed to pay the tax, with the exception of its request for suspension in 2014.
