US President Donald Trump said he did not blame Turkey for buying the S-400 missile system from Russia and declined to answer questions posed by journalists about possible sanctions against Ankara over the crisis.
"We are looking at the whole situation of Turkey," Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday.
He noted his administration's decision to exclude Ankara from the F-35 fighter program by saying that "Turkey got the S-400 system, but our regulations stipulate that both systems can not be acquired together."
He added that the United States can not now sell F-35 fighter jets billions of dollars to Ankara because of the purchase of the Russian system.
Trump blamed the administration of his predecessor Barack Obama for the crisis, blaming it for not selling the Patriot missile system to Turkey despite Ankara's request.
"I do not blame Turkey, because there are many circumstances and many problems have happened during the Obama administration, which was disastrous."
The US president did not elaborate on whether he would continue to impose sanctions on Turkey for its dealings with the Russian military on the basis of a law to confront US opponents of the Katsa sanctions of 2017.
Trump decided to exclude NATO ally Turkey from the US F-35 fighter aircraft program following the arrival of parts of the Russian missile system to Ankara this month.
    Refusing to punish Turkey
The CNN reported a few days ago that Trump told Republican members of the Senate during a meeting with the White House that his administration does not want to impose sanctions against Turkey to buy Russian weapons.

Reuters reported that comments by US lawmakers on the issue indicated that efforts to impose sanctions were not a priority at the moment.
On the other hand, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that his country will go to buy fighters from elsewhere if the United States did not follow F-35 fighter jets.
He added that the US decision to exclude Turkey from the program of production of these fighters will not deter them from seeking to meet their needs.
Erdogan said he hoped American officials would be "rational" about the issue of sanctions.
