Reveal new details before the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait
2019/08/03 03:24:06
[rtl]Shafaq News / Friday, the twenty-ninth anniversary of the Black Thursday or the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the second anniversary of August 1990, the anniversary of the event shook the pillars of the Gulf, and the stumbling of political and economic papers, to remain part of the repercussions present to this day.[/rtl]
[rtl]Although Kuwait seeks to turn the page of the past and the future into the future, that extraordinary day in the history of both Kuwait and Iraq is still present, despite the years that have passed, so that the series of invasion remains a memory of political and military lessons.[/rtl]
[rtl]"It is an unforgettable memory," said Maj. Gen. Sabir Suwaidan, commander of the al-Salam Air Force base, who told the Independent of the invasion. "Who can forget the victims of the invasion, destruction and displacement?[/rtl]
[rtl]The dawn of the second Thursday of August 1990 was already exceptional. In the dark of night, Saddam Hussein launched a surprise attack in terms of timing and relations towards Kuwait, anticipating political and military escalation.[/rtl]
[rtl]"There is no doubt that the information that was available at the time confirms that everyone was aware of the invasion, whether through security monitoring or through satellite or many sources of information both inside and outside Iraq, as well as information derived from Friendly countries, all of which were confirming that Iraq was preparing for this invasion more than three months ago. "[/rtl]
[rtl]Escalation precedes the storm[/rtl]
[rtl]The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait was marked by a remarkable escalation at the extraordinary Arab summit held in Baghdad on May 28, 1990, when Saddam Hussein, who was in charge of the Arab national security at the invitation of Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat, "Kuwait stealing Iraqi oil."[/rtl]
[rtl]Political events between the two countries began to escalate. In practice, on July 16, 1990, Iraq handed over the League of Arab States a protest note, in which Kuwait and the UAE complained about what it called an increase in oil pumping, which led to a drop in oil prices and impact on the Iraqi economy.[/rtl]
[rtl]On July 17, 1990, Saddam Hussein delivered a speech in memory of the July 1968 revolution, accusing "Gulf states, particularly Kuwait, of involvement in an oil plot against Iraq," threatening to use an "appropriate response" against it.[/rtl]
[rtl]Invasion arguments[/rtl]
[rtl]Nasser al-Masri considered the accusation "unrealistic and unrealistic," saying that "the field that Saddam claimed to steal was closed, and that Kuwait's production of oil at the time was not more than one million barrels."[/rtl]
[rtl]"There is no Kuwaiti role to weaken Iraq, Kuwait was supporting Baghdad in its war against Tehran," he said, stressing that "we have no interest in the destruction of Iraq."[/rtl]
[rtl]Maj. Gen. Suwaidan said, "Yes, in this speech, Saddam publicly said to cut off the necks, not to cut the livelihood. On the basis of that speech, his foreign minister, Tariq Aziz, then charged Kuwait with a declaration of war."[/rtl]
[rtl]In his speech to the Egyptian adviser, he said that "the first features of the Iraqi threats, which were openly announced by Saddam, were formed, especially as there were many warnings today and that the Iraqi invasion was inevitable. , And warnings have already arrived from the Kuwaiti military attaché in Basra, "according to Egyptian.[/rtl]
[rtl]Iraqi escalation continues[/rtl]
[rtl]The escalation continued on July 18, 1990, when Saddam sent his foreign minister Tariq Aziz to the secretary-general of the League of Arab States carrying a letter accusing Kuwait of pursuing an aggressive policy against his country deliberately weakening it. Kuwait also accused the gradual and systematic encroachment on Iraqi territory, Claiming that the Kuwaiti government "to establish military facilities, security and oil, as well as farms on Iraqi territory." The letter added that "Kuwait and the UAE are doing what it described as a conspiracy to sink the oil market more production, aimed at the collapse of Iraqi oil."[/rtl]
[rtl]In the light of the serious Iraqi accusations, the stage entered a further escalation, which led to extensive Arab diplomatic contacts to contain the crisis between the two countries.[/rtl]
[rtl]Arab endeavors[/rtl]
[rtl]"The Arab efforts to stop the aggression have continued from the heads of many Arab countries in an effort to ease the tension between the two countries," he said, praising the role played by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. There were also moves by King Hussein of Jordan , And Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat.[/rtl]
[rtl]Kuwaiti Movements[/rtl]
[rtl]Kuwait, at the time, did not observe the silence. The Kuwaiti National Council (the replacement of the National Assembly, which was dissolved at a time before those repercussions) criticized the Iraqi position on Kuwait.[/rtl]
[rtl]Kuwait then decided to send its Foreign Minister Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on an urgent mission to meet with the leaders of the Arab countries, carrying messages from the Emir of Kuwait Jaber Al-Ahmad to inform them of his country's stance on the ongoing and dangerous Iraqi escalation.[/rtl]
[rtl]On 19 July 1990, fears of escalation in the conflict appeared to be evident in the form of intensive contacts between Arab capitals in an effort to stop the deterioration of relations between Kuwait and Iraq.[/rtl]
[rtl]On the following day, Friday, July 20, 1990, Egypt entered the crisis line clearly, calling for a settlement of the dispute in the fraternal dialogue.[/rtl]
[rtl]High index of war[/rtl]
[rtl]As the fears of a serious Iraqi move escalate, the trade union federation in Kuwait accused Iraq of declaring war, apparently in response to what the Iraqi army newspaper al-Qadisiya had hinted at "the possibility of military action against Kuwait" on July 21, "Iraq will take action to protect what it calls its rights and interests."[/rtl]
[rtl]On July 22, 1990, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak received Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz, who informed him of an oral message from Saddam Hussein. "They are the ones who threaten us, and we do not threaten anyone," he said.[/rtl]
[rtl]With every new day the crisis is rising. KUWAIT, July 23 (KUNA) - Kuwait has begun to feel the danger towards Iraq's intentions, but has maintained the Arab framework for the crisis, stressing that it did not ask for interference from the United Nations in an attempt to calm down.[/rtl]
[rtl]On the same day, Damascus entered the crisis line, demanding calm in conjunction with an Egyptian proposal for a four-point settlement plan: excluding any threat of resorting to force, starting the task of bringing the two countries closer together, holding a reconciliation meeting in Cairo, .[/rtl]
[rtl]In the wake of the call for reconciliation, leaders of the Arab Maghreb in Algeria decided at the end of their summit in Algiers to send a special envoy to the Gulf region to mediate in the task of defusing the crisis between Kuwait and Iraq.[/rtl]
[rtl]Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak announced on July 24, 1990, that he would tour Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in an attempt to contain the crisis.[/rtl]
[rtl]On July 29, 1990, the Egyptian president announced that a bilateral meeting would be held in Jeddah that would bring together officials from Kuwait and Iraq to settle the differences between the two countries.[/rtl]
[rtl]Indeed, the media campaigns between the two countries have stopped, and in Washington, Iraqi assurances have been made to the United States not to take any military action.[/rtl]
[rtl]The ambiance is soothing[/rtl]
[rtl]The atmosphere is heading towards calm. This is what appeared until June 29, when the ministers of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) agreed to raise the price of oil from 18 dollars a barrel to 21. Kuwait and the UAE also confirmed that they would reduce their oil production to less than 1.5 million barrels per day .[/rtl]
[rtl]Jeddah Meeting[/rtl]
[rtl]On June 30, Saudi Arabia announced that the bilateral meeting between the delegations of Kuwait and Iraq would take place in the city of Jeddah, against the backdrop of the approval of Kuwait and Iraq.[/rtl]
[rtl]"The meeting was held at the request of the late King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz," said Major General Suwaidan.[/rtl]
[rtl]Indeed, on July 31, negotiations between the two countries began. The Kuwaiti side was then crowned by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Saad Al-Abdullah. On the Iraqi side, the head of the delegation was the deputy head of the Iraqi Revolution Command Council, Azza Ibrahim.[/rtl]
[rtl]"We hope that the meeting will be a positive and fundamental step towards reaching a final and just solution to all outstanding problems and issues between the two countries," he said.[/rtl]
[rtl]After the meeting, Azza Ibrahim went to perform Umrah in a step that she understood left the doors of all possibilities open.[/rtl]
[rtl]"Everyone expected that this meeting would come through diplomatic solutions, but unfortunately the Kuwaiti delegation found the Iraqi rejection," he recalled. "It turned out that the Iraqi delegation came to thwart the meeting."[/rtl]
[rtl]"Kuwait has discovered that although it made many concessions, including the waiver of debts, the Iraqi delegation was trying to thwart this summit, so that it would eventually leave for Umrah. The Kuwaiti delegation would have the option of returning to Kuwait on the evening of August 1," he said.[/rtl]
[rtl]"However, Kuwait believed that another meeting would be held in Baghdad after a week, but it was not."[/rtl]
[rtl]The adviser Nasser al-Masri criticized the management of the crisis from the Kuwaiti side, stressing that "the information on Iraq's intention of the invasion was clear, and was free to prepare for confrontation."[/rtl]
[rtl]"The Kuwaiti forces alone can not resist the Iraqi attack, but the various Kuwaiti military formations in coordination with the island's shield and the activation of our security agreements with Britain and the request for support of US forces could have prevented the occurrence of this great strife."[/rtl]
[rtl]"Between 8 am and 10 pm on the night of August 2, 1990, Iraqi units stationed near the Kuwaiti border posts began bombing Kuwaiti sites and entering the land," Suidan recalled.[/rtl]
[rtl]He added that "at 10:15 am on the night of the invasion, I received a letter to go to the Ali al-Salem air base. Sheikh Saad was there to follow developments." : 30 dawn rose to the maximum degree to the situation number one, a state of readiness for war.[/rtl]
[rtl]He said, "Iraqi forces attacked three teams of the Republican Guard entered the early morning of August 2 attacking the Sixth Brigade and the General 35, in conjunction with the bombing of the bases of Ahmed Al Jaber and Ali Al-Jaber air, and then many of the fighters in the air, and continued The attack on the Kuwaiti bases and brigades on the morning of August 2, and began the Iraqi forces to enter from the side of Umm Qasr and Abdali and the Muslim, as she worked (pliers) on the Kuwaiti forces, and even the sun was the Iraqi forces occupied the majority of Kuwaiti territory.[/rtl]
[rtl]"Kuwait tried to use friendly and friendly forces, but the time passed and Kuwait fell on the second evening of August," he said. "Not surprisingly, the attacker was 150,000, while the other 17."[/rtl]
