The Washington Post reveals Trump's financial offer for Greenland 16739

The Washington Post revealed in a report the secret behind President Donald Trump's keen interest in buying Greenland from Denmark and the financial offer he made to Denmark in exchange for the deal. The Danish government has said the island is not for sale in response to the US offer.

According to the report, officials in the administration of US President Donald Trump discussed the possible payment to Denmark for the delivery of Greenland Island to the United States.
The Washington Post said White House staff had come up with the idea of offering a deal to Denmark, in which Washington pledges $ 600 million in annual aid to Greenland forever.
In addition, the possibility of paying a large lump sum to Denmark was considered as an incentive to hand over the island.
The report notes that Washington's growing interest in Greenland is because the melting of the polar ice there opens the way for the exploitation of underground wealth in new parts of the Arctic, as well as control of the northern shipping routes, amid increasing "Chinese and Russian expansion" in the region.
The paper also argues that the cancellation of Trump's visit to Denmark may indicate that the main purpose of this visit was to discuss the purchase of the island, despite all the rejection of statements by Denmark and Greenland itself, which enjoys great autonomy.
At present, about half of the total Greenland budget consists of subsidies from the Danish Treasury.According to some newspapers, this amount is about $ 740 million a year, or $ 13,000 per capita per year. According to the Washington Post.
Earlier reports in the Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump had expressed interest in buying the world's largest island, Greenland.
