Despite the apparent rapprochement with Iraq during understandings announced by the two sides last February to activate bilateral trade and remove obstacles facing them, the reality reflects a state of Iraqi refusal by government and private sectors to normalize economic relations with Jordan.
Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Tareq Al-Hammouri did not hide in an interview with Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed newspaper, seen by Mawazine News, the existence of problems facing his country's exports to Iraq, saying that "Jordanian exports to Iraq during the first five months of this year decreased from what it was In the same period last year, due to the conditions imposed by the Iraqi side on all imports such as cards of origin and other quality control procedures.
On the other hand, Jordan's efforts to restore the Syrian market, which is considered one of the most important export markets for its products, as well as the resumption of transit trade through the Syrian line to many countries, stalled.
The land border between Jordan and Syria reopened in October last year after being closed for several years.
Hammouri added that "his country was forced to apply the principle of reciprocity with Syria by banning the importation of many Syrian goods and imposing restrictions on others, where Syria prevents the entry of Jordanian products to its territory," adding: "We are ready to reverse this decision in case Syria cancels it." For his part, said the Jordanian economist, Hossam Ayesh, that "the normalization of economic relations with Iraq and Syria is not easy, because they are linked to political calculations, in Iraq, the economic decision is subject to the standards of Iran, which holds a high proportion of the Iraqi market and entered as a key player in the economy There".
Ayesh said, "The strengthening of relations with Iraq is not linked to government decisions only, but the consent of other parties, especially the political blocs that embrace different political loyalties."
On the Syrian side, according to Ayesh, it is also related to the Jordanian political positions on the Syrian crisis, even though Amman was a supporter of the political solution to the Syrian crisis.
He also pointed out , that " the siege of Qatar also had a negative impact on Jordan 's exports. Faced with this situation, Ayesh stressed that the government is required to compensate the lost exports in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen and other countries ' markets, through the trend towards new markets.
Commenting on this, "A program of action will be launched to increase Jordan's exports," Hammouri said. "The government has a role in overcoming, stimulating and assisting the industrial sector to increase its exports to foreign markets by establishing an export house in cooperation with the private sector."
"The government is committed to increasing Jordanian exports and expanding the target commodities and markets, especially to EU markets. I hope that exports will increase by 10-15 percent in the coming period," the minister added.
Omar Abu Weshah, chairman of the Jordan Exporters Association, called on the government to "put in place a program to support Jordanian exports after the exemption of exporters' profits from taxation last year.

Abu Wishah suggested a set of measures to support and enhance national exports in the coming period, such as the establishment of a national authority to cover the political risks of exports, especially in the promising markets for Jordanian goods.
