    President Barham Saleh discussed with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday the role of the European Union in helping Iraq.
    "President Barham Salih met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly," said a presidential statement received by Mawazine News.
    The statement added that "the meeting discussed ways to improve relations between the two countries in all fields to achieve the aspirations of the two friendly peoples, and the role of the European Union in assisting Iraq for reconstruction, and strengthening the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces arm and training."
    He pointed out that "the President of the Republic and the German Chancellor reviewed the developments on the regional and international arenas, where they stressed the importance of dialogue between all parties to achieve peace and stability in the region."
