The US State Department issued a statement on the demonstrations in Iraq, pointing to the final report of the killing of demonstrators Iraq lacks credibility.
"The United States welcomes any serious efforts by the Iraqi government to address the continuing problems in Iraqi society," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement.
"The Iraqi government should listen to the legitimate demands of the Iraqi people who have taken to the streets in order to get their voice heard," he said.
He stressed that "the investigation conducted by the Iraqi government in the violence in early October lacked sufficient credibility, and the Iraqi people deserve real accountability and justice."
"As the efforts announced by President Barham Saleh begin, the recent severe restrictions on press freedom and expression must be eased," he said, adding that "press freedom is an integral part of democratic reform."
"The US government continues to support the Iraqi institutions and the Iraqi people and the security, stability and sovereignty of Iraq."
