Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Tariq Al-Hammouri said that the government will take all necessary measures to simplify and accelerate the procedures related to clearance of goods coming through the port of Aqaba and destined for other countries, especially Iraq, in addition to studying the reduction of the cost of transit, in coordination with the authorities. The minister added that the ports of Aqaba will witness, according to the current indicators, a significant increase in handling and transit trade due to the competitive advantages offered by the port and the advanced infrastructure available in it. .
He said that a list of all comments made by the commercial and industrial sectors and the logistic and direct services companies would be prepared for immediate consideration and possible remediation, thus speeding up procedures and reducing costs.
Hammouri called on logistics companies in Aqaba to submit all their observations and proposals as soon as possible, in order to develop appropriate solutions for them, as the location of Jordan and the port of Aqaba qualified him to be a regional center for transit trade, and will be re-read in the coming period, the legislation governing the work of this trade, which enhances the competitiveness Port of Aqaba.
He said that Aqaba port is witnessing a rise in handling traffic, due to Iraq 's tendency to increase its dependence on importing goods, which requires strengthening the procedures of clearing the goods at the port and accelerating them and reducing the costs to increase the competitiveness of the port.
In February of this year, Jordan exempted Iraqi imports through the port of Aqaba by 75%, as part of understandings reached by the two sides with the aim of enhancing economic cooperation in various fields.
