Jordan's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati said on Friday the importance of electricity linkage with Iraq within the framework of the Arab electrical linkage system, which enhances trade relations and achieves energy integration.
Zawati said in a statement that "these projects would strengthen the Arab electricity linkage in the context of aspiration for a common Arab market that contributes to the achievement of Arab integration and serve the Arab people."
The Minister stressed the importance of electricity interconnection projects in reducing costs and forming a safety net for all participating countries.
Zawati's comments came in response to the Iraqi government's decision to approve "accelerating the contract with Jordan to import electricity."
Zouati praised the energy cooperation relations with Iraq, especially after the export of Iraqi oil via tankers to Jordan in September 2019.
She expressed the hope that the implementation of the linkage network with the Republic of Iraq will begin soon, complete the procedures for extending Iraq's oil export pipeline through Aqaba port and implement the remaining energy cooperation projects between the two countries.
