BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi media have circulated alternative candidates for prime minister after Adel Abdul-Mahdi announced his intention to submit his "resignation" request to the Iraqi parliament, hours after the country's top religious authority called for a vote of no-confidence.

According to the Iraqi media, the candidates are:
Ali Allawi (Minister of Finance of the Interim Iraqi Government in 2005)
Qusay Al Suhail (Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research)
Ali al-Shukri (Minister of Planning from May 4, 2011 to 2014 and member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives from 2014 to 2018)
Faeq Zidan (President of the Supreme Judicial Council)
Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani (Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in Abadi Government 2014)
Asaad al-Aydani (current governor of Basra province)
During the Friday sermon in the holy city of Karbala, Ahmad Al-Safi stressed the sanctity of attacking peaceful demonstrators, stressing the necessity of taking care of the sanctity of public and private funds and not leaving them vulnerable to attacks by engineers.
