Washington reveals Iran's "significant" influence behind the killing of protesters in Iraq

[rtl]US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Monday that protests were sweeping more than 90 areas of Iran, noting that people were "tired of seeing rulers stealing tens of millions of dollars."[/rtl]
[rtl]"People are tired of seeing religious rulers steal tens of millions of dollars and put them in their pockets, money that could be used to secure resources for the Iranian people, so they said enough and demanded their basic rights."[/rtl]
[rtl]Pompeo said that reports say about 700 people have been killed by security forces in Iran, and thousands have been arrested.[/rtl]
[rtl]"The role of the United States is to stand up and say that what is happening is not true. These people are demanding basic rights. The Iranian leadership must change in a way that reflects the desire of the Iranian people."[/rtl]
[rtl]Pompeo touched on the events in Iraq and Lebanon, linked to Iran and its ongoing interventions in the two countries, to which both peoples were fed up.[/rtl]
[rtl]He said that "the Iraqi prime minister resigned against the backdrop of the protests, after people demonstrated and demanded freedom, but the security forces killed dozens of them, and this is because of the Iranian influence largely."[/rtl]
[rtl]"The demonstrations in Beirut reflect the desire of the Lebanese of all sects, for independence. They want Iran and Hezbollah outside their country."[/rtl]
