Iraq opened, on Tuesday, a "discreet clearing" with Syria, which had been closed for years, in order to deposit the amounts of trade exchange, through the only outlet so far between Iraq and Syria.
In a statement reported by the Russian Sputnik agency, the Qaim District Judge of the border post with Syria, Ahmed Al-Rasheed, said, "After the rehabilitation of Rasheed Bank in Al Qa’im, the discreet clearing of the Syrian and Iraqi commercial trucks has been opened.
Jedyan added, "The clearing was newly opened and work was done and depositing the amounts of Syrian truck fees through the existing border port (Albukamal)," revealing that "about (12-10) trucks enter from the Syrian side, on a daily basis."
Jadiyan attributed the low number of Syrian trucks entering and Iraqi trucks heading to Syria through the port west of Anbar, to "procedures for obtaining visa drivers from the Iraqi embassy in Damascus and the Syrian in Baghdad."
Iraq and Syria opened their joint link between the city of Qaim, west of Anbar, and the Syrian Albukamal on September 30, after nearly 6 years of its closure, after the ISIS terrorist group had taken control of large areas of the two countries earlier.
The head of the Border Ports Authority, Kazem Mohamed Bersim Al-Oqabi, announced on Friday September 27 that Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi agreed to open the border post of Al-Qaim border point next Monday.
Al-Okabi asserted, at the time, that the port was ready for the passage of travelers and also for commercial exchange.
It is noteworthy that the Al-Qaim crossing in Al-Anbar Province in western Iraq was liberated from the terrorist group ISIS in November 2017, and its reopening was postponed several times due to the lack of completion of its rehabilitation.
Syria is linked with Iraq with three border crossings, two of which are under the control of the American forces, the first is "Al-Arabiya - Rabia", which connects the far northeast of Syria with the Iraqi lands, and is controlled by the American coalition forces taken from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and a front on the crossing, and the other It is the "Al-Walid - Al-Tanf" crossing, which is directly controlled by the American and British forces.
