Iraq refuses to join the conventions on refugees and stateless persons

"The Ministry has recognized the delay in joining the Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons (1954), as it contradicts the applicable laws of nationality and passports and the absence of statelessness in Iraq".
He added that "the other reasons for postponing admission are inconsistent with the Iraqi constitution regarding the status of asylum and the nationality law and its inconsistency with the development taking place at the present time."
And on the return of the competencies between Saleh, "The Ministry is following up with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers the possibility of removing the obstacles that prevent their return by re-granting them the privileges approved by the Iraqi government several years ago, including the appointment and customs exemption from imported furniture and vehicles."
