Politician Ibrahim Al-Sumaida’i sent an urgent message today, Monday to President Barham Salih, to brief him on the conditions for assigning the head of the interim government.
Al-Sumaida's message came on the heels of an unusual political crisis in the country, represented by demonstrations and protests that led to the overthrow of the first government for the first time after the 2003 system based on the parliamentary experience.
Al-Sumaidaie said in his message, "Your Excellency, please inform you that the Iraqi constitution requires that the candidate of the largest (most numerous) bloc be assigned to the first post-election only according to the text of Article 76 \ First, and it is not required that the president of the republic assign the candidate of the largest bloc to the second assignment 76 Third, not in the third assignment, 76 / Fifth.
He added, "With this, the President of the Republic will have more flexibility in consulting to choose the second or third commissioner with the political blocs and active forces (demonstrators now)."
The message of al-Sumaida’i, a politician close to the door, opens the door wide for the president to do the assignment without waiting for nomination from the largest bloc, which could bring a national figure who heads one of the institutions to take over as prime minister.
