All the charges against Nixon were related to what was then known as the "Watergate scandal" in 1972, related to spying on the offices of the rival Democratic Party.
The result was that Republican Senators withdrew their confidence from Nixon, prompting him to resign before his dismissal proceedings began, in 1974.
