Gas line ignites the war between Washington and Moscow
12/23/2019 07:03:04
[rtl]Shafak News / Despite the sanctions passed by the US Congress and President Donald Trump a few days ago, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that the Russian "Stream Stream 2" pipeline would be completed despite the imposition of US sanctions on companies associated with construction work.[/rtl]
[rtl]Lavrov said in statements carried by Russian news agencies, "I am convinced that (Nord Stream 2) and (Turkish Stream) will be completed, and the last one will start work within two or three weeks." And in his talk about Nord Stream 2, the Russian minister considered that "the Europeans are aware Their economic interests, as well as their energy security in the long run. "[/rtl]
[rtl]"They were insulted, but we heard statements, especially from Berlin, showing that the self-esteem of our European partners is still maintained," he added. At the same time, news reports from international newspapers indicate that American pressures around the gas pipeline have led to the speedy study of stopping the project that delivers gas to Germany, and the Times newspaper reported that the project is supposed to extend under the Baltic Sea to transport 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually from St. Peter Port to Griffith was born in northeastern Germany.[/rtl]
[rtl]Last Friday, US President Donald Trump signed a law imposing sanctions on companies associated with the construction of (Nord Stream 2) and (Turkish Stream), while Berlin, which is the first beneficiary of Nord Stream-2, strongly condemned the sanctions, as well as the European Union.[/rtl]
[rtl]However, the US ambassador to Germany, Richard Greenl, described his country's decision as "in the interest of the Europeans," and told the German newspaper "Bild" that "European diplomats thanked me all day long for taking this measure."[/rtl]
[rtl]The Nord Stream 2 business is drawing to a close, and it will allow Russian gas exports to Western Europe to double, and will pass under the waters of the Baltic Sea before arriving in Germany.[/rtl]
[rtl]In the first indication of the start of the impact of the sanctions, the Swiss company "Ulcis" suspended its activities on Nord Stream 2 pending "clarifications."[/rtl]
[rtl]On the other hand, the Turkish Stream project, which passes through the Black Sea, is expected to be launched next January, in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Turkish Stream includes two tubes, the first ends in Turkey, while the second continues its path towards southern Europe. And southeast.[/rtl]
[rtl]Congress ignores the European position and passes new sanctions[/rtl]
[rtl]And a few days ago, the US Congress passed a law that includes sanctions on the Russian gas pipeline to Europe "Nord Stream 2" by an overwhelming majority, and this comes despite the condemnation of the European Union and Berlin as sanctions and an American interference in European energy policy, as the Congress supported the imposition of sanctions on the Russian gas pipeline. North Stream 2 "or" Nord Stream 2 ", which Washington believes is strengthening Moscow's influence in Europe, and the Senate supported the text with a large majority (86 to eight), after it was approved by the House of Representatives last week.[/rtl]
[rtl]And US President Donald Trump signed a law that included legislation imposing penalties on companies involved in the construction of the Russian "Nord Stream 2" pipeline, which aims to double the capacity to carry gas with the northern "Nord Stream 1" through Germany, and would enable "Nord Stream 2" which At the bottom of the Baltic Sea, Russia will bypass Ukraine and Poland to deliver gas.[/rtl]
[rtl]These penalties apply to companies and individuals dealing with the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline, which will transport Russian natural gas to Germany via the Baltic Sea, as part of an attempt to limit Russian influence on the natural gas market in Europe, and in the framework of this project, the gas will be transported taking into account From next year directly from Russia to Germany without crossing Poland or Ukraine.[/rtl]
[rtl]The sanctions aim to disrupt the completion of works on this project, which has been completed about 80% of it, to start operating at the end of this year, and will allow double the shipments of Russian natural gas to Germany, but the European Union and Germany condemned these sanctions, which target legal companies and constitute an American interference in energy policy European.[/rtl]
[rtl]Germany rejects US sanctions[/rtl]
[rtl]Last week, German Foreign Minister Haikou Maas expressed his hope to prevent US sanctions, and demanded that the Senate not respond to this, considering the decision of the US House of Representatives "unacceptable, because this ultimately affects independent decisions taken in Europe," and added In his Twitter account, "We reject external interference and sanctions outside the borders in principle."[/rtl]
[rtl]European Commissioner for Trade Phil Hogan also announced that Brussels "opposes imposing sanctions on any European companies that conduct legitimate trade deals", adding that "the goal of the European Commission has always been to verify that the Nord Stream pipeline operates with transparency and without discrimination."[/rtl]
[rtl]Washington and its allies, Ukraine and Poland, believe that the gas pipeline will increase the Europeans' dependence on Russian gas and thus enhance Moscow's influence, and Republican Senator Jim Rich said that Nord Stream 2 "is a threat to energy security in Europe and a provocation by the Russian government."[/rtl]
[rtl]The project represents an investment of ten billion euros, half of which is funded by the Russian "Gazprom" group, and the other half is funded by five European companies.[/rtl]
[rtl]Two lines to serve Turkey and the European Union[/rtl]
[rtl]Work on the project began in May 2017, after the reconciliation between Turkey and Russia, and the first stage of the gas pipeline that ran between Russia and Turkey across the Black Sea was completed, but the pipeline between Turkey and Europe was not yet completed.[/rtl]
[rtl]It is expected that the Turkish Torrent project will transfer 31.5 billion square meters of natural gas annually, and the marine part of the project was completed by extending two parallel tubes of 930 km and more than two kilometers deep under the waters of the Black Sea, during the past year, and the Kremlin announced that the Russian President intends Traveling to Turkey on January 8th to open the pipeline.[/rtl]
[rtl]The Turk Stream project consists of two lines, the first will serve Turkey with a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters, while the second is planned to serve Europe.[/rtl]
[rtl]In May last year, the Russian state gas giant Gazprom said it had signed a protocol with the Turkish government on a planned pipeline for gas pipelines, and that it had agreed with the Turkish company Potas to end an arbitration dispute over the terms of gas supplies.[/rtl]
[rtl]The protocol concerned the ground part of the Turk-Stream gas pipeline, which Gazprom said meant meant that implementation could begin immediately.[/rtl]
[rtl]Turkey has postponed issuing a permit to the Russian company to start laying the ground part of the pipes, which, if completed, will reduce Moscow's dependence on Ukraine as a transit point for gas supplies to Europe.[/rtl]
[rtl]The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey and Russia have reached an agreement that applies retroactively and provides for a discount of 10.25% on the price of natural gas that Ankara buys from Moscow.[/rtl]
