An American defense contractor was killed, on Friday, in a missile attack on a military base near Kirkuk, where US forces are stationed. A number of American and Iraqi soldiers were also wounded.
US officials said that the attack saw the launch of up to 30 missiles.
The officials accused Iran-backed militias of carrying out the attacks.
It is noteworthy that Iraq has been in turmoil since the first of last October, due to the anti-government protests, which left more than 450 martyrs.
The protests prompted the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi late last month.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command announced today, Sunday, the start of a military operation to pursue the remnants of ISIS in 5 regions of the country.
The eighth stage of the operation, called "The Will of Victory," covers areas in the governorates of Mosul, Kirkuk, Diyala, Salahuddin and Al Jazeera.
