US Defense Secretary Mark Esber said, "The draft message on the withdrawal from Iraq does not bear any value and the United States is not in the process of withdrawing."
"The Iraqi people want a free, prosperous and free Iraq," Esber said in an interview with CNN. "We are not looking to start a war with Iran and we want to reduce escalation," he said.
And that "the intelligence was convincing and [Qasim] Soleimani was meeting with a terrorist official to plan attacks, and we are ready for the worst, but we hope that Iran will resort to reducing escalation."
"Iran continued escalation, did not listen to our warnings and acted in self-defense, and we assure our people and our allies that we are not seeking war, but if it begins, we are capable of it," the US defense secretary stressed.
"We advised the US president to target Soleimani, so we know that this is the right decision," he said.
