US Secretary of Defense: We will maintain this level of deterrence against Iranian terrorist factions
US Defense Secretary Mark Esber announced that, with the assassination of the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Qassem Soleimani, in a US air raid in Baghdad last week, the United States "recovered a level of deterrence" against Iran.
"With the strikes we carried out against the Hezbollah brigades in late December, then with our operation against Soleimani, I think we have recovered a level of [size=13]deterrence with them, " Esber told reporters . "But we will see." The future will tell us. ”
However, the minister did not rule out that Shiite factions, "whether they are led directly by Iran or not", would launch more attacks against American forces in Iraq.
And Esber stressed that the American forces will have to "respond firmly to ensure that this level of deterrence is maintained."
