Member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee MP Abdul Khaleq Al-Azzawi confirmed on Thursday that his committee supports the strategy of diversifying weapons sources in the Iraqi forces, calling for the necessity of reactivating military industrial companies to support local production.
Al-Azzawi told Al-Maalouma that support for diversification of weapons and their sources within our military units with different addresses is a very important necessity and strategy in order to create flexibility in armaments that departs from the frameworks of international pressure.
He added, "The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee stresses the importance of re-operating with military manufacturing companies to achieve self-sufficiency in weapons, in accordance with a framework that guarantees the security of the needs of the armed forces."
He believed that "relying entirely on the import of weapons and ammunition from abroad must be addressed by supporting the principle of arms and ammunition manufacture according to what meets the actual need of our forces and helping them to perform the tasks assigned to them." End 25f
