[size=18]The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Ahmad Al-Safi, affirmed on Friday that the operation of the supreme authority, Mr. Ali Sistani, was successful and is currently recovering, while he indicated that Mr. Sistani did not call himself before, during, and after the operation.

Al-Safi said in a press conference followed by Alsumaria News, "The health status of Mr. Sistani has improved and is currently recovering."

He added, "The surgery was successful and Mr. Sistani's health is stable."

Al-Safi explained, "Mr. Al-Sistani was fully aware during the operation and there was no general anesthesia. The medical team was satisfied with topical anesthesia only."

The representative of the religious authority stressed that "Mr. Sistani before, during and after the operation never called for himself, but rather called for Iraq."

An official source in the office of Mr. Al-Sistani said yesterday, "The supreme authority, Mr. Ali Al-Sistani, was subjected to a twisting in the left leg that led to a fracture of the thigh bone."
