ARBIL (Kurdistan 24) - The United States may deploy anti-missile devices in the wake of a missile attack launched by Iran on the base of Ein al-Assad, where US soldiers are stationed in Iraq, Pentagon officials said.
The American Fox News network quoted Pentagon officials as saying that it is possible to deploy a missile defense system in response to the Iranian missile attack in Iraq.
The move comes at a time when the US military announced the dispatch of a number of its soldiers for treatment in Germany after suffering a concussion due to the shelling.
The US military has been unable to shoot down any of the Iranian ballistic missiles as there is no missile defense system at the base, according to Fox News.
A senior Pentagon official told the American channel that they excluded Iran from launching another missile attack on Ain al-Assad base.
On the 8th of this month, Iran launched 11 short-range ballistic missiles at Ein Al-Assad Air Base, in which more than 1,000 American soldiers are stationed.
The attack was in response to a US airstrike by a drone that killed a prominent Iranian general, Qasim Soleimani.
US President Donald Trump has previously threatened to impose sanctions on Iraq if the government goes ahead with possible plans to expel about 5,000 US soldiers currently deployed in Iraq.
