The local administration in the Zubair district, west of Basra, announced, on Friday, a contract with the security clearance office at the Basra Oil Company, which includes obliging foreign oil companies operating within the employment authority of Zubair to employ the unemployed and job seekers in their oil sites, stressing that they are heading towards a peaceful escalation through coordination Demonstrators and the unemployed for the purpose of guaranteeing their rights to work in oil companies in accordance with the laws of contract and binding agreements with the local government in Basra.
Judge District Commissioner Abbas Maher said in a statement to "Information", that "the local government in Al-Zubayr suggested in a meeting with the Security Permits Office at the Basra Oil Company written pledges that include all parties, obliging the oil companies to employ the unemployed within the Al-Zubair Employment Office."
He pointed out, "setting next Monday the date for an expanded meeting in the Zubair Employment Authority in the presence of all representatives of foreign oil companies in addition to the security clearance office at the Basra Oil Company and senior management in the Zubair field about the 2020 plan to employ the unemployed."
And Maher said, “The oil companies did not commit in 2019 to employing the unemployed and registered within the Zubair Employment Office according to the laws of investment contracts that are obligated to employ the people of the nearby areas on the oil fields within the percentage prescribed in the contracts of oil licensing rounds.”
He noted that "there are 42 thousand unemployed people whose data have been recorded in the electronic database in the employment office and that about 4,400 of them were employed during the year 2019 within the job opportunities announced by Basra Governorate."
Maher stressed that "the local government in Al-Zubayr and the popular movement will go towards a peaceful escalation if these companies do not abide by the promises and decisions that will come out at the next meeting." End / 25
