The Commission for Human Rights announces a high death toll among protesters
The Commission for Human Rights announced the killing of at least 12 people and the injury of dozens among protesters, as demonstrations escalated in the capital, Baghdad, and other regions and cities in Iraq.
In a statement, the UNHCR said, it trusts the killing of (12) demonstrators, of whom (9) in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Governorate and (3) in Dhi Qar Governorate.
It also documented the injury of 230 protesters and security forces, including in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Governorate (118), in Dhi Qar Governorate (78), and in Basra Governorate (34), in addition to (89) cases of arrests of demonstrators in the governorates of Baghdad and Basra.
The Commission called on "all parties to stop any form of violence and self-restraint, to maintain the peaceful demonstrations, and to avoid any collision that leads to casualties and cooperation in order to protect lives and public and private property and stop violations of human rights that lead to restrictions on freedom of opinion, expression and peaceful demonstration."
