(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The United Nations Mission in Iraq commented on the appointment of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to the post of prime minister.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jenin Hennes-Blashart, according to the UN statement, welcomed the "appointment of a Prime Minister, Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi. It urges to work quickly, first and foremost, to achieve fundamental reforms and meet the legitimate demands of the people for justice and accountability."
"Iraq is an urgent need to move forward," she said. "The prime minister-designate faces a huge task: to quickly form a cabinet and ratify parliament to move forward with meaningful reforms that meet popular demands and achieve justice and accountability."
He added: "The road ahead remains fraught with difficulties. Progress will require the support of all actors involved in the work of the Prime Minister-designate in the service of the Iraqi people. The obligations contained in the Prime Minister-designate statement meet many of the demands of peaceful protesters. While this is certainly an encouraging sign It is worth noting that the Iraqi people will ultimately judge the leadership of the country through results and achievements.
She added: "The United Nations has repeatedly called on all stakeholders to move beyond partisanship and put the national interest first. It is time to act."
Henness-Blackshart urged that "every effort be made to get Iraq out of its crisis. The United Nations will continue to support the Iraqi people and their government to build a more peaceful, just and prosperous Iraq." is over[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
