International media revealed, according to Iraqi sources, that Mohammed Al-Kawtharani is the shadow and successor of General Qassem Soleimani.

According to the two sources, Hezbollah intervened through Kawtharani to help fill the void left by Soleimani, with regard to directing the Iraqi armed militias, especially since his death constituted a painful blow not only to Iran but to its most important arms in Iraq and Lebanon.

Hizbullah held urgent meetings with the leaders of the Iraqi armed factions to unify their ranks in the face of a great vacuum left by the killing of their powerful leader. One source reported that the meetings were held in Lebanon, while the other said that they were held either in Beirut or in Tehran. A regional official said that Hezbollah’s directing of militias would continue until the new leadership in the Quds Force, which was led by Soleimani in the Revolutionary Guards, handled the political crisis in Iraq.

Al-Kawtharani is considered one of the most prominent aides of Soleimani, and he lived a long period of his life in Iraq, until he became integrated in the fabric of Iraqi parties.

It was reported that he also urged the formation of a united front in choosing a new prime minister, according to the media, which resulted in the appointment of Tawfiq Allawi as prime minister. According to the two sources and a high-ranking Iraqi Shiite leader, he currently views Al-Kawtharani as the most appropriate figure to direct the parties until a permanent Iranian successor is chosen, although he does not have in any way the influence or luster of Soleimani.

A source close to the factions disclosed that Al-Kawtharani met Muqtada Al-Sadr, to persuade him to support the new Iraqi Prime Minister, which appeared to be the transformation of Al-Sadr's recent positions.
