Legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi revealed, on Saturday, that the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, was ready to assume the presidency of the government in the event of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi failing to gain parliamentary confidence, stating that the deadline granted to Allawi would not end without offering his cabinet.
Al-Tamimi said in a statement to "Information", that "the 30-day period granted to Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi if the parliament does not hold its session."
He added that "Allawi presented his booth and curricula to Parliament before the end of the term, as the defect lies in Parliament and it is not in it," noting that "if Parliament votes in the negative, the President of the Republic will assign another candidate according to Article 76 quater and fifth."
Al-Tamimi continued, "If, however, the period of (2 March) passes, the President of the Republic will take the place of Abdul-Mahdi in the conduct of daily affairs in accordance with Article 81 of the Constitution, while awaiting the formation of the cabinet." Finished / 25 d
