Iraqi President Barham Saleh announced that he would begin consultations to select an alternative candidate to head the government, after the Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi’s apology for assigning him to form the government apologized. Allawi indicated that he was subjected to political pressure in Parliament that hindered the passing of the government, calling on the demonstrators to continue their sit-ins until their demands are met.

The parties affiliated with these two components demand that they nominate the candidates to take over the ministerial portfolios, not the president in charge .
