Deputy: We expect a breakthrough soon to name a new prime minister
Abbas al-Zamili, MP, from the Al-Fateh Alliance, saw on Tuesday (3 March 2020) that the situation does not allow for the nomination of an independent prime minister, who replaces Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, who has apologized for assigning him to this task.
Al-Zamili said, during his talk to the "Point of View" program presented by Dr. Nabil Jassem on the "Tigris" channel that "the nomination of the prime minister should be based on consensus, and we expect a breakthrough soon with the appointment of a new prime minister by the President of the Republic."
He explained, "The political dispute reached the highest level on March 1, at which time the passing of the government of Muhammad Allawi failed, and I do not think it will last or escalate further."
He believed that "the leader of the alliance of the conquest, Hadi al-Amiri, possesses the confidence of all, and waived the right of conquest by ministerial representation in the government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi, and also with the formation of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi," noting that "Muhammad Allawi is not a candidate of the conquest or marching."
He continued, "The President of the Republic requested that a prime minister be appointed away from the parties, and Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani and Asaad Al-Eidani refused on this basis and did not commit to accepting the candidate of the largest bloc."
And he added: "The first of the presidents of the republic and parliament was to support Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, and his mission was not to exceed a year, and the Shiites were able to proceed with the issue, but we do not want only one Iraqi component to form the government."
He went on to say: "We do not believe that the situation allows for the nomination of an independent prime minister, and the President of the Republic should return to the larger bloc," stressing that "naming a government away from political representation is impossible."
The Prime Minister, Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, had submitted, at dawn on Monday (2 March 2020), his apology for assigning to the President of the Republic Barham Salih. After that, the Presidency of the Republic issued a statement announcing the start of consultations to select a replacement candidate within a period of 15 days.
