Parliamentary movement to choose the next prime minister, bypassing the leaders of the blocs
MARCH 14TH, 2020
Barham Saleh sends letters urgently to resolve the candidate
Baghdad - Waad Al-Shammari:
A number of deputies began a wide movement in order to reach a choice of prime minister for the next stage, in conjunction with the failure of the task of the leaders of the political blocs.
The owners of this movement depend on their proximity to the street, their possession of a unified vision, and talked about names that were presented with the hope of choosing one of them according to constitutional contexts, warning against prolonging the resolution of the file and procrastinating it through the formation of committees, and also revealed messages sent by the President of the Republic Barham Saleh in order to present the candidate As soon as.
In an interview with Al-Sabah Al-Jadeed, Representative Ahmad Al-Kinani said, "The past hours witnessed a wide-ranging parliamentary movement in order to nominate the Prime Minister and present it to the President of the Republic in accordance with constitutional contexts."
Al-Kanani added, in an interview with Al-Sabah Al-Jadeed, that "the reason for this move is that the political leaders held more than one meeting, but they differed in the criteria and specifications of the candidate."
He pointed out that "the mechanism of work of the deputies will be to reach candidates whose names will be raised to the leaders, since there is a unified vision for quite a few members about the specifications required in the prime minister."
Al-Kanani pointed out that "resorting to this option is not easy, in conjunction with the multiplicity of positions and their differences within the political blocs, Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds as well."
He stressed, "The Iraqi political situation does not yet allow jumping at the will of the leader or leader of the bloc, and therefore the issue may remain under discussion and take a long time."
And Kanani said, "The issue of forming negotiating committees to choose the prime minister is an option that was also resorted to during this stage, the purpose of which is to delay the issue and give it more time, and therefore there will be no agreement on anything."
He hopes, "The process of choosing the Prime Minister will not be longer than it is now because this opens the way for interpretations and interpretations away from the constitution."
Kanani said, "The representatives conveyed a message on more than one occasion that they are the closest to the Iraqi street, and that the continued failure of the bloc leaders to reach a candidate will give the other light to the deputies in the initiative and resolve the file."
He emphasized, "The dependence of some on the necessity for leaders to interfere in selection by describing the process has a political nature that did not produce results during the past period."
Al-Kinani called on the political forces to "absorb the idea that the street rejects the political performance of leaders and blocs, and this curse must be taken into account, dealt with and absorbed, and convince public opinion that the political process is proceeding with its constitutional form, especially when we are on the cusp of early elections."
He went on to "the need for there to be a correction in political action, and it is the duty of all parties, including popular actors, to start early in preparing themselves to enter the elections."
Al-Kanani concluded, "The Iraqi challenges are known and are very difficult, both internally and externally, and then the next prime minister should set a platform to solve them."
For his part, MP Adnan Al-Zarfi said in a statement to "The New Morning" that "the parliamentary movement is very important and helps the heads of the blocs to overcome the crisis in a better way."
Al-Zorfi added, "The parliamentary forces are compatible and have good relations with each other, and if those forces are not affected by the leaders’ struggles, reaching the prime minister's candidate will be easy. "
It is expected that "the Prime Minister and a number of members of his government will be among the deputies who are currently seeking to resolve the crisis, and then we will emerge from this crisis with a coherent government team with a base on which to base the legislative authority."
Al-Zorfi believes that “the experience of the parliamentary movement was clear in the process of not passing the government of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi. Most members did not attend the session of granting confidence, and this indicates that relying on them to choose the alternative is not difficult.”
And it goes on to say, "Solidarity between more than 100 deputies cannot be overlooked, but has a great meaning and the number can be increased in preparation for choosing a prime minister who is able to manage the country for the next stage and implement the demands of the demonstrators."
Al-Zarfi revealed that “a number of names have been put forward, among them my name, Haytham Al-Jubouri, Ahmed Al-Asadi, and Muhammad Shi'a Al-Sudani, and everyone is representatives with political and popular extensions, and they can work well.”
He stated, "The names that were previously proposed can be discussed again, as there is nothing to prevent a person from standing for office as prime minister."
And he talked about "messages sent by the President of the Republic to the political forces, urging them to rush to choose the candidate for the Prime Minister, and the leaders who meet constantly, their efforts seem complicated to the crisis and do not intend to solve it."
Al-Zorfi concluded by saying, "The agreement of the leaders on one candidate who enjoys popular and popular approval is very difficult at this stage in particular to confront giant files."
It is noteworthy that the leaders of the political blocs have not yet agreed on a candidate for the post of Prime Minister to succeed Adel Abdul Mahdi, despite the continuing demonstrations in a number of provinces to demand reform and the elimination of quotas and early elections.
