US official: We refuse to consider Designated Prime Minister Adnan Al-Zarfi supported by Washington
On Saturday, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker refused to consider designated Prime Minister Adnan Al-Zarfi as an American-backed.
"The United States has focused not on individuals, but on principles related to the appointed Iraqi prime minister, Adnan Al-Zorfi," Schenker was quoted as saying by Al-Monitor.
He added, "We are looking for an Iraqi government that will take care of the situation in Iraq first, in proving that they are Iraqi patriots, and they want Iraq to be a sovereign country."
Schenker rejected a characterization that designated the prime minister-designate to be supported by Washington, as Zarrafi was first appointed to be the governor of Najaf in 2005 by the US-led Coalition Provisional Authority.
