    The International Monetary Fund has warned that the challenge of the new Corona epidemic will be enormous for the Iraqi economy, while noting that more than ten countries in the Middle East and Central Asia have requested financial support from the fund to face the consequences of the Corona virus on their economies.
    Jihad Azour, director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department, said in the International Monetary Fund’s blog, “Governments must do everything available to help their health systems and strengthen their social safety nets despite their already under pressure budget.”
    Awar added, "Economic policy responses must be directed towards preventing the pandemic, which is a temporary health crisis, from developing into an economic recession for a long time, which causes permanent losses to welfare in society through increased unemployment and bankruptcy."
    He pointed out that central banks should be ready to provide liquidity to banks, especially to support lending to small and medium enterprises, while traditional financial measures to support the economy, such as spending on infrastructure, can be considered once the crisis recedes.
    The International Monetary Fund said it was working to speed up approval of urgent funding requests from the region, and the first batch since the outbreak will be discussed this week for the Kyrgyz Republic.
