    Private / Sky Press translation

The American news site (Bloomberg Openingon) published a strongly worded article on the cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr, criticizing his last gay tweet, saying:

Four years ago, when Muqtada al-Sadr called for an end to violence against the gay community in Iraq, the Shi'a political cleric seemed ahead of his followers, but he returned to homophobia this week, assuming that the Coronary Pandemic (Corona) pandemic was the result of same-sex marriage, Here, it shows the extent of the delay in default. As he put it

"Like most countries in the Middle East, Iraq is not hospitable to homosexuals, but a few places in the country have been hostile, like a poor neighborhood in Baghdad that bears the title of al-Sadr and is its political stronghold: in (Sadr City), where clerics loyal to him gave anti-gay speeches, and chased The Mahdi Army routinely killed homosexuals.

So the statement of Sadr in the summer of 2016 surprised and delighted human rights groups, here as a former religious fanatic developed into a secular statesman! Carrying a talisman on the sidelines, while Iranian-backed Shiite parties dominated Baghdad's politics, Muqtada rediscovered himself as a mediator or at least the closest simulation administration imaginable in the highly sectarian theater of Iraqi politics.

He placed himself at an equal distance from Iran and the United States, where he played his credentials as an Iraqi patriot. The defunct Mahdi Army has been revitalized and reshaped in the name of the Peace Brigades, or "peace companies" intended to fight the Islamic State.

Serious Iraqi scholars welcomed this shift. Perhaps Moqtada al-Sadr can reform Iraq by using his father's originality against the malicious foreign influences, especially those from Tehran. In response to his political rise, Iran has increased its blood between politicians and its militias. The first is led by Hadi al-Amiri, and the second is Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

And since Soleimani, the engineer, and Al-Amri were among the main targets of the popular protest movement that erupted in the Iraqi public square last fall, the siding of Sadr with the demonstrators was natural. Those who led the October Revolution, as is known, welcomed his help, especially after they were attacked by Security forces and militias loyal to Tehran. Sadr's Peace Brigades, with their distinctive blue berets, provided little protection that protectors could mobilize against enemies with sniper rifles and sticks.

Al-Sadr was able to use the anger in the streets as a political weapon against Iranian dolls in Baghdad. When the protests forced the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, Sadr was able to prevent Iran from choosing a flexible alternative. As both sides of the Shiite political divide settled into a long showdown, the Iraqi nationalist seemed to have a slight advantage over Iranian loyalists.

Then, on January 3, the American drone raid came, which killed Soleimani and an engineer. This was a blow to Amiri, who just a few days ago masterminded the storming of the US embassy in Baghdad. But Sadr was unable to take advantage of the weakness of his political rival.

Instead, as he longed for when he should be winding, he split from the October Revolution and threw his bread with Tehran. Where he ordered his supporters to abandon the movement. His Peace Brigades, who only paused to take off their blue caps, began to dispose of the squares that were centered around them in the protests.

The views of the causes of the chest are unclear. Some Iraq watchers suggest that he saw the death of Soleimani and the engineer an opportunity to seize the resulting political space, but they believe that he can only achieve this with the help of Iran, as his militias are not in the same combat league as Tehran's proxies.

Likewise, al-Sadr may have estimated that he needed to show his own influence, regardless of protest movement. After Al-Amiri took advantage of the funerals of Soleimani and the engineer, as Sadr called on his followers to organize an anti-American (mid-January demonstrations).

Whatever its causes, separation from protesters is likely to prove wrong. Even before the coronary epidemic ended street politics, its attractiveness had visibly weakened: anti-US demonstrations never matched the numbers or energy of the October Revolution.

Without street support, Sadr’s influence in parliament is greatly reduced. He has failed to obtain the nomination of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi as prime minister after the veto against the Iranian-backed faction. Sadr is now said to be supporting Adnan al-Zorfi, who also hit the wall with Tehran.

While Iran benefits from having Sadr in her tent or at least pleading to allow her in, her political interests in Iraq are already well served. Peace Brigades are of little use to Tehran. It is unlikely that Sadr will be compared to Al-Amiri, as he is a very loyal man who fought alongside Iran in the 1980-1988 war with Iraq. The mercenary politician is also not a candidate to fill the engineer’s shoes, according to the author’s description.

The article concludes by saying, "In short, after he abandoned a large part of his natural circle and was unable to build a new section in Tehran or Baghdad, Sadr is evading political importance. His statement (homophobia) is a manifestation of this despair."

This article comes after a tweet published by al-Sadr during the past week, which states that one of the reasons that led to the spread of Corona is "gay marriage" and he had responded to it in a second tweet, the British ambassador in Iraq strongly criticized that.
