Under the above headline, Igor Sobotin, in "Nezavisimaya Gazeta", wrote about doubts that the Pentagon was preparing for a painful blow to Shiite formations, but some were opposed to the process.
The article says: The US-led international coalition continues to evacuate its main military installations in Iraq and transfer responsibility to local security forces. At the end of last week, the foreign force left the air advance base in the central part of the country. The withdrawal gives Shiite groups a reason to celebrate the victory, but there are indications of troop movements that indicate willingness for a military operation.
At the end of March, Al-Mayadeen channel reported the start of the deployment of the American Patriot anti-aircraft missiles in Iraq. The New York Times wrote, citing its sources, that the US Armed Forces leadership is considering launching an operation against Shiite fighters. Thus, according to the newspaper, the Pentagon informed its commanders of the need to prepare for an operation against "Hezbollah Brigades" in Iraq. However, there is no final decision on this matter yet. Not everyone in the Pentagon supports the force scenario.
In this regard, the expert of the Russian Council for Foreign Affairs, Anton Mardasov, told "Nezavisimaya Gazeta" that "the collapse of oil prices and the Corona virus has a negative impact on Iraq, which is unable to reach a consensus on forming a government."
Rather, "a cyclical political stalemate, coupled with the desire to raise oil prices, would push the United States into a victorious local war: Iran is now experiencing difficulties from the Corona pandemic and the oil crisis." This scenario, according to Mardasov, is wrong.
He said: "The Americans are improving their presence in Iraq by concentrating their forces in two facilities in Iraqi Kurdistan. This decision has more than one meaning. It allows maintaining operational capabilities to strike pro-Iranian forces smuggling oil from Iraq to Syria in the desert, in addition to sparing foreign forces a virus." Corona, and most importantly, it is protected from the constant bombardment by Shiite fighters, and this is confirmed by the deployment of American air defense systems. " This, according to Mardasov, will also help deprive the Shiites of saying that all the problems of Iraq after the liquidation of ISIS hotspots are continuing because of the presence of the West.
