The Iranian Kayhan newspaper directed severe criticism of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, against the backdrop of the statements he made during his recent visit to Washington.
Hossein Shariatmadari, editor-in-chief of the newspaper close to the Iranian leader, Ali Khamenei, published an article in which he attacked Al-Kazemi, under the pretext that the latter stated that the meeting he had brought together with US President Donald Trump was fruitful, and his assertion of Iraq's continuing need for the United States in the field of combating ISIS terrorist organization.
Shariatmadari justified his point of view by saying that the Prime Minister of Iraq knows that many ISIS members confessed after their arrest that they obtained modern American weapons from the military bases that fell under their control, in addition to receiving training in one of the Gulf countries.

The Washington Post conducted an interview with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi after concluding his visit to Washington
Al-Kazemi confirmed to the Washington Post that Iraq wants American forces that focus on training and building Iraqi capabilities and does not need combat forces, pointing out that former Iraqi leaders were embarrassed to acknowledge the US military support in Iraq, and this relationship does not embarrass anyone, he said.
With regard to Iraq's relationship with Iran, Al-Kazemi said, he told the Iranians that the relationship with Iraq should be state-to-state relations rather than working with militia leaders who know to undermine the central authority.
The newspaper indicated that Trump and Al-Kazemi are comfortable with the current military relationship between the two countries, adding that Al-Kazemi seeks to improve relations with Saudi Arabia and plans to visit Riyadh in the near future.

The armed factions are striving to get the American forces out of Iraqi lands and are relentlessly targeting their sites.
And in the wake of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi's visit to Washington .. Al-Monitor news website revealed threats made by armed factions targeting US interests, amid calls for an immediate withdrawal of US forces in implementation of the Iraqi parliament’s decision.
Observers of Iraqi affairs say that the aim of the attacks against US interests is to embarrass Al-Kazemi, who is campaigning to restore the prestige of the state and eliminate corruption and the influence of armed groups.
The Independent newspaper confirmed that Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi's presentation of dimensions in the understandings with Washington and activating economic investments, and confronting Iranian influence provoked the armed factions loyal to Iran, which seek to swallow the state and push it to declare escalation.
The newspaper indicated that the armed groups continue to run a state of escalation against US interests and military bases, through which they aim to prove their presence and strength, and confirm their rejection of any understandings between Baghdad and Washington that do not pass through Tehran.
The newspaper stressed that the armed factions adopt a theory, according to which obstructing the efforts of the Iraqi government in formulating understandings with Washington will stimulate the latter to withdraw, which is what those factions rely on by putting pressure on Al-Kazemi by various means.
