    ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Top Kurdistan Region officials received a high-ranking Iraqi judicial delegation on Tuesday in Erbil, where they discussed the current status of judiciary in Baghdad and the coordination between regional and federal justice departments and officials.

    In one meeting, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani and Faeq Zedan, head of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, discussed the latest political developments in Iraq with a focus on issue of justice.

    They also stressed the role of the judiciary in resolving multiple outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad, according to a press release.

    In a second meeting, the visiting delegates discussed the impartiality of Iraqi judiciary with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, stressing that it must avoid being dragged into national political conflicts, according to another statement, which noted that President Barzani told Zedan that he hoped federal judicial training programs for future judges in the Kurdistan Region would continue.

    The delegation also met with regional Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday.

    According to a statement by Barzani's office, Zedan remarked to the prime minister that the Kurdistan Region’s “unique position” in Iraq has to be respected by federal institutions, particularly the judiciary.
