President of the Republic, Barham Salih, discussed today, Tuesday, with the US Assistant Secretary of State the strategic dialogue between Baghdad and Washington.
A presidential statement received (Baghdad today) stated, “The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, received in Baghdad Palace, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, David Schenker.”
The meeting discussed the relations between the two countries and means of developing cooperation prospects in all fields within the context of dialogue. The existing strategy between the two countries and in accordance with common interests, and the need to protect Iraq’s sovereignty, continue the international effort in the war on terrorism, and cooperate and coordinate in facing the repercussions of the economic and health crisis of the Corona epidemic.
The meeting also dealt with “developments on the regional and international arenas, as it was stressed the need to reduce tensions in the region and reject attacks and interventions by using the language of dialogue in resolving the outstanding issues, maintaining security and stability and establishing peace.”
