On Thursday, Samir Hawrami, a spokesman for the Vice President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, confirmed that there has been significant progress in the ongoing negotiations between Baghdad and Erbil.
Hawrami said, "The Kurdish delegation headed by the Vice President of the Regional Government, Qubad Talabani, conducted a series of meetings with members of the Finance Committee and the various political blocs, and there was progress in the negotiations and reached a quasi-agreement."
He added that "the fundamental disagreement was over paragraph 11 of the budget law, which concerns the settlement of financial matters for the years 2004 until 2020, and also the existence of a branch of the Federal Office of Financial Supervision in the region, and there is a semi-final agreement, the details of which will be revealed within the next two days."
A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, is visiting the capital, Baghdad, and has held intensive discussions and meetings in an attempt to reach an agreement on fixing the region's share in the budget.
