Today, Thursday, the Independent High Electoral Commission revealed the number of parties and political entities registered to participate in the upcoming elections, explaining the reasons for extending the registration period for parties and candidates.

The Commission said in a statement that the decision to extend the registration period for political alliances until 1/5/2021, and to receive candidate lists until 4/17/2021, was based on studying and analyzing the internal factors of the institution, and the external factors represented by the Single Non Transferable Voting System (SNTV) Candidate-centered, not a party or coalition-centered system.

She added that the number of applicants to participate in the elections is not commensurate with the size of the 83 electoral districts, nor is it proportional to the number of seats allocated to members of the House of Representatives amounting to 329 seats.

The Commission indicated that the number of officially approved parties reached 249, while the number of parties that are under establishment reached 59 parties, noting that 106 parties expressed their desire to participate in the elections.

She indicated that the number of alliances that have been ratified reached 30, and here are 10 alliances that are registered, and 7 alliances expressed a desire to participate, while the number of candidates reached 144 candidates to participate in the next electoral event.

The Commission clarified that since the start of the voter data update process on January 2, 2021, the data of one million and 49 thousand and 370 voters have been updated, including newborns 2001, 2002 and 2003, reaching 279,595 voters, indicating that the voters are among the displaced whose data has been updated biometrically. Their number reached 14,794 voters.

She indicated that this led to an increase in the total number of biometric registrants to 15 million and 534 thousand and 518 voters, adding that it distributed 13 million 284 thousand and 931 biometric cards.
