Representative Hussein Al-Yassari, Chairman of the Parliamentary Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee, welcomed, today, Friday, the Pope’s historic visit to Iraq, which he described as positive, very important and at a sensitive time, stressing that it will contribute to supporting peace and unity in Iraq and the region.
The left-wing MP warned that this visit indicates the importance of Iraq internationally and regionally, given its great historical, geographical and economic assets.
He also praised the Pope's insistence on visiting Iraq and meeting with the religious authority Sayyid Ali Al-Sistani in Najaf and the Pope's desire for a unified prayer that includes all Iraqi religions and components under the banner of the Prophet of the Prophets and Messengers, the Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him.
For his part, the leftist stated that he will work with the rest of the members of the Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee to legislate all laws that would protect the rights of all followers of religions and components and ensure equality in dealing with them without discrimination or marginalization.
The left-wing MP called on the three presidencies and political leaders to invest this visit in order to achieve more international support to face the crises facing the country and to cross it towards the shore of safety, stability and progress.
The leftist concluded his speech by inviting Christians in the Diaspora to return to their country, Iraq, as they are an original and important component, calling on the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work to encourage them and facilitate the procedures for their return.
