, Minister of Agriculture Muhammad Al-Khafaji confirmed, on Tuesday, that the Kurdistan Regional Government is unable to control its border outlets with regard to the files of smuggling and entry of various goods prohibited from import.
Al-Khafaji said, "The ministry is working on cultivating 14 million dunams this year," noting that "the local product of wheat has increased by one million tons under the circumstances of the pandemic."
He added, "In the draft federal budget bill for the fiscal year 2021, we focused on fertilizers and left a lot of the basics."
Al-Khafaji added that "the Kurdistan Regional Government is unable to control its ports," noting that "90 percent of the ports are controlled in Iraq, and I communicate with officers daily about smuggling."
He noted that "the Agricultural Bank mishandled two trillion dinars."
Al-Khafaji stated that "the farmers did not receive 20 percent of their dues."
He added, "We will issue a law to own whoever farms desert lands," noting that "the contracted agricultural lands are 26 million dunams."
And the Minister of Agriculture added that "people want to cultivate, but the imbalance is in the water quotas," noting that "there are 12 million dunams for which we cannot provide the water quota." Ended 29 / A87
